Huawei Nova Y74 Is it worth buying?
The Huawei Nova Y74 is a battery-focused device that demands significant compromises regarding software and performance.
- Choose it if
- You need a long-lasting battery for basic tasks and are comfortable using workarounds for apps without Google services.
- Consider alternatives if
- You are a heavy multimedia consumer, a gamer, or someone who relies on Google apps like the Play Store and Google Wallet.
Based on published reviews and owner reports.
Review sources ↓What works well4
- Massive 6620 mAh battery
- 40W fast charging support
- Bright 90Hz IPS display
- Good price to spec ratio
Reported trade-offs4
- No Google Play services
- Ancient Kirin 710A chipset
- Poor low light camera
- Low resolution display
Why we say that
While the 6620 mAh battery is a standout feature that lasts a long time, the experience is heavily hindered by the lack of Google Play services. Owners report that essential apps require workarounds and services like Google Wallet do not function. The device relies on an ancient Kirin 710A chipset, which limits overall performance and future updates.
While the build feels solid, users note the presence of some junk parts. The display is bright and offers a 90Hz refresh rate, but the low resolution and poor low-light camera performance make it difficult to recommend for multimedia enthusiasts. If you prioritize battery life above all else and are comfortable navigating the limitations of EMUI 12 without Google services, this phone might serve your basic needs.

However, heavy users will find the performance and gaming capabilities lacking.
